My father used to take me to the 4bs occasionally just to enjoy their tomato soup. This Montanan restaurant is known for many things and serves a wide range of food items from light to heavy for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. But their 4bs tomato soup recipe is something that aired this restaurant beyond anyone could ever imagine. This recipe is delicious and very rich in nutrients. The creamy wonder of diced tomato taste lingers for a long time after you have it once.
Some part of their restaurant chain was closed for unknown reasons back in 2007. Then it was reopened in an expanded version under new ownership. This tomato soup recipe is still there on the list, but I don’t get to enjoy this soup as I live far away. But I have succeeded in making a copycat recipe of 4bs, and today I’m here to share my version of this recipe with you. If you try this once, this recipe’s original taste will never let you go for the canned stuff ever in your life.

Ingredients
To prepare this old-fashioned tomato soup, you will need the following ingredients:
- Condensed and preferably undiluted chicken broth (1 can or 10.5 ounces)
- Finely diced tomatoes (1 can or 29 ounces)
- Finely chopped onion (1 tablespoon)
- Butter or margarine (2 tablespoons)
- Baking soda (1 tablespoon)
- White sugar (2 tablespoons)
- Half-and-half or pure heavy cream (2 cups and 1/4 teaspoon separately)
Instructions
It is a fairly easy task to prepare the 4b’s restaurant tomato soup recipe. It requires a few minutes of preparation time and takes only 40 minutes to complete the recipe. But if you are indifferent to the instructions, things might go sideways, such as the scorching problem or overheating the cream. Do as follows carefully:
- Take a large stock pot at first. Remember, it needs to be large enough to fit all the ingredients.
- Put the chicken broth, tomatoes, onion, baking soda, and margarine in that stock pot. Mix these ingredients very well. However, it doesn’t need to be smooth, as you are going to shimmer it right away.
- Now, heat the mixture over very high heat until it starts boiling.
- Then reduce the heat to medium-low and shimmer these ingredients for 1 hour and 15 minutes.
- Take a separate pot to heat the cream. Put the cream in the pot and keep heating over low to medium heat till it gets considerably hot. It doesn’t need to be boiling.
- Now, put the hot cream into the stockpot and mix smoothly with the tomato soup. You have to stir the mixture until you get a smooth texture.
When you get a fine and smooth texture, your 4bs tomato soup recipe is ready. Serve and enjoy with your dearest ones.
Tips and Tricks
Very often will face the scorching problem while heating the cream. To avoid this problem, you have to create a “double boiler” system. It will help you to heat the cream perfectly without scorching. You will need two saucepans for this method. Put a little amount of water in one saucepan. Then place the cream on the other saucepan. At last, place the pan with cream on the pan with water.
This “double boiler” system heats the cream without a bit of scorching.
